Weekend Recap: Mini Thrift Haul + Arts District

Weekend Recap: Mini Thrift Haul + Arts District

Hi friends!

This past weekend was a great one. Between the increased amount of daylight and time I’ve been able to spend shooting both on set and with friends, I couldn’t feel more grateful.

Friday:

If you follow me on Instagram, chances are you saw that I was on set for a photoshoot. It’s been a while since I’ve been on set with a new team so I was feeling a bit nervous. Overall, it was a great experience and I feel so lucky for the opportunity to model again. Shoutout to my childhood best friend, Xia for referring me and The Outdo Group for casting me. Photos to come soon!

Saturday:

I slept in quite a bit after having a spontaneous dinner with a friend on Friday night. Saturday, I cleaned and did a bit of laundry before running out to Uptown Cheapskate to find some quick outfits for a photoshoot with my photographer friend, Fanny.

While going through racks of clothes, I was looking for dramatic, statement pieces that might be fun to wear during the shoot, but instead I ended up falling in love with this For Love & Lemons tube top and vintage cotton button up. I’m currently obsessed with the Swedish brand Djerf Avenue by IG it-girl and designer, Matilda Djerf. I love her tube top and playful suit pairings. Her style is so effortless and I love how she mixes vintage with the other brands that she partners with.

As my style transitions from what I consider to be my modern cottage core phase to minimalist 90’s model off duty, I find myself drawn to the same staples: cream trousers, vintage button up shirts, and minimalist gold jewelry. I feel like all fashion people discover their ethos over time. For some, it’s more is more. For others, less, timeless, and classic always wins.

I also tried on this linen floral print dress. I didn’t end up getting it but I tried it on because it very much reminded me of a Reformation style with the square neckline, skirt slit, and feminine silhouette. It was just a bit too big on me and I figured it’s not something I absolutely wanted at the time.

Sunday:

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to experience art in person. I think the last time I went to a museum it was when I visited my friend in Chicago last Fall. Hauser & Wirth is a small contemporary art museum nestled in the Arts District in LA. It’s consists of multiple open rooms featuring a rotation of artists from around the world, a bookstore, courtyard, garden with a chicken coop, and Manuela, a seasonal dining experience.

Oh and did I mention, the museum is FREE! The only caveat is finding parking nearby which is neither easy nor free depending on when you’re trying to visit. There is free street parking but it can be a ways away from the museum.

The current exhibit features huge sculptures by British artist, Phyllida Barlow. It’s quite the immersive experience to walk through the wood-like beams and gaze at the chaos above. Emotionally, creatively, I find her sculptures to be very expressive though I can see why some people might question the overall aesthetic. But that’s contemporary art for you, it can mean anything to anyone.

Walking through the museum with my friend Jasmine was a calming experience. I love how the museum doesn’t feel too crowded and there are many places to sit outside to enjoy the art. The garden is one of my favorite spots and it’s inspired me to start one of my own soon.

There are also a ton of cute boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and speciality stores in the area as well, so there really is something for everyone in the Arts District.

I’m obsessed with these one of a kind mugs by ceramic artist, Peter Shire. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them around several times on my Instagram feed by home-savvy bloggers that I follow. Each mug is simply so eye catching and playful. Naturally, I’m sure they make morning matcha taste just that much better.

After the museum, my friend and I split lunch at Cafe Gratitude, a plant-based restaurant with delicious plates, bowls, and trendy lattes. I’m terrible at eating my veggies but whatever Cafe Gratitude is putting in their dishes, I’ll happily eat it.

Now, let’s talk about the outfit. Inspired by fan-girls of The Row, I am so pleased with how this outfit came together. I’m wearing the For Love & Lemons tube top I thrifted, Le Marché satin pants (gifted from a modeling campaign), Reformation sandals (gifted from a previous brand partnership), and Cult Gaia bag (bought at a sample sale). The whole look is super comfortable yet feels chic enough to stroll through even the most posh parts of LA.

A fun little twist ending to my Sunday was having my car battery die. I’m certain now it was my own damn fault since I was trying to charge my phone in my car while I was going through photos. Note to self: keep the car running. Also, thank goodness for AAA.

This concludes my eventful weekend being out and about in the city! I can’t express enough how full my heart feels being able to see so many friends over the weekend and spend time doing things I love. From the big exciting moments to the one-on-one chats with friends, there’s nothing like navigating life alongside kind, supportive, and creative people.

Many thanks to my friend, Jasmine for taking these photos of me at Hauser & Wirth.

Have a wonderful week!

Kiana
