Thrift Haul: May 2022

Hi friends!

To bring a little pep to your Monday blues, I am so excited to share my latest thrift haul with you. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been picking up things here and there based on my favorite trends and brands. Per usual, I’ve been finding myself drawn to all things timeless, minimalist, and classic, but occasionally I can’t help myself and purchase something a little outside my norm. After all, fashion is nothing without a little fun.

Usually when I thrift, I have a few things on my mind that I keep an eye out for but usually I end up finding things outside of what I originally was looking for. To me, the thrill of thrifting comes from the element of surprise. You never know what you’re going to find and for that reason alone thrifting is like a treasure hunt.

Look 1:

This look is 70’s inspired with a modern twist. I found the leather pants first and have been wearing them with everything from sweaters to tank tops. Typically, I’m not a huge fan of prints but when I saw this wrap top I knew it would pair perfectly with these pants. I absolutely love the warm chocolate tone of this outfit. It’s a nice change from the white and black tones that I feel like I usually find myself in.

Top: Isalis

One of the first things I do when thrifting is look at the tags. At first glance, I didn’t recognize the brand Isalis but I loved the style so much I decided to get it anyways. After a quick google search, I discovered that Isalis is a small San Francisco chain of boutique stores that carry all of the most IG-worthy brands from House of Sunny to St. Agni. For a quick one-stop-shop, Isalis is a cute style destination where you can discover new brands and shop ones you already love.

Thrifted for $13.50 at Crossroads Trading, currently on sale for $32!

Leather Pants: Artizia

It has been a running joke in my friend group lately that leather pants are the ideal pant of choice when wanting to catch the eye of your crush. Though I currently don’t have a summer crush, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear these faux leather pants. They’re super soft on the inside and despite what you might think, they’re very breathable. Perfect for work or for going out, these pants are one of my favorite wardrobe staples.

Thrifted for about $25 from Uptown Cheapskate, currently available for purchase for $148 at Artizia.

As a little birthday present to myself, I bought these oversized Burberry sunglasses from Wasteland on Melrose. For months now, I’ve been on the hunt for vintage Chanel sunglasses, but the ones at Wasteland were still over $400 so I settled for a little more of a dramatic style with these huge frames.

Another reason as to why I picked these instead of other used designer sunglasses is because these are in pristine condition. There are no markings or scratches on the lenses and the hardware is all perfectly new throughout the sunglasses. When shopping for vintage or used sunglasses online be sure to zoom in on the photo to see the quality of the lenses up close.

Thrifted for $200 at Wasteland. Similar style available for purchase for $290 at Burrberry.

Look 2:

Inspired by some of my favorite minimalist fashion bloggers, this look feels very similar to what I’ve seen on IG It girls like Jen Ceballos (@endlessloveclub) and Christie Tyler (@christietyler). To me, this look is dramatic yet mysterious, effortless yet a little bold.

Halter top: Zara

When I think Zara, usually the first thing to come to mind is fast-fashion. Now my thoughts on fast-fashion is a whole separate blog post but basically if I can thrift something rather than buy new then I will. Since this top is a classic style and the fabric feels like it will last, I decided to get it with hopes that I’ll make a lot of use out of it this summer.

Thrifted for $15 at Wasteland, similar style is available for $20 at Zara.

Leather Boots: Michael Kors

Now I know it’s not exactly boots season, but shoes are one of the hardest things to come by when it comes to thrifting, so when I find a pair I like, I jump on them. These are knee high leather boots with an elastic fabric backing and short heel. The previous owner never seemed to wear these boots since the bottoms were barely worn with little sign of damage. Initially, I did not like the silver chain detail, but it’s come to grow on me and I don’t really see it when I’m wearing these boots.

Thrifted for $20 at Crossroads, similar style is available for $250 at Michael Kors.

Look 3:

Summer is nearly here so naturally I’m on the hunt for swimwear. When shopping for swimwear, I always check to see if the pieces are unworn or if anything, at least as least as clean as possible. Swimwear is so expensive partially because it’s a seasonal purchase, so some of the best times to shop for swimwear is during the off seasons or towards the end of the summer.

Bikini: Netta

Netta is a sustainable, small batch swimwear brand that I’ve been a fan of for a while. Created by Jordan Kanegis, Netta swimwear is created with thoughtful details, timeless prints, and versatile design. I was so excited when I spotted this nearly unworn Netta bikini set at the thrift store. The fabric is soft and stretchy and the fit just couldn’t be better.

Thrifted at Crossroads for $20, shop all Netta here.

Look 4:

I never would have guessed that the dad sneaker trend would still be alive and well after all this time. I suppose it makes sense though as 90’s and early 2000’s fashion in many ways is still having its ‘moment’ amongst both Millennials and Gen Z. It doesn’t feel that long ago that I found myself pouting in a sporting goods store while my parents insisted that I wear sneakers like these for arch support instead of the Converse or Vans that all the cool kids in school were wearing. If only I could go back in time and tell fourteen year old me that the arch support was worth it. Also, don’t complain, those sneakers were probably expensive.

New Balance Sneakers:

From Emily Oberg to Jordan Santos, nothing completes the Sporty & Rich look better than a classic pair of New Balance sneakers. For what it’s worth, I will say the quality is amazing and the arch support is as my parents would say: good for you.

Thrifted for $32 at Crossroads, currently available for $185 on New Balance.

There you have it! My May thrift haul with all my little tips and tricks on how to source the best secondhand pieces. To me, thrifting is a fun therapeutic practice. It’s a fun way to discover new brands, purchase and support ones that might be out of reach, and support a more sustainable approach to fashion. It does take time and patience to find things that fit well and speak to your personal style, but I think it’s more about the journey than the destination.

I hope you have a great week and if you have any questions about my thrift haul, leave me let me know in the comments section down below or send me a DM!
