How To Style: Winter Knits

How To Style: Winter Knits

All the cool girls wear knits in the winter.

Winter is here and by winter, I mean shorter days, chilly evenings, and the sudden urge to bake every weekend. Since I’m lucky enough to live in LA, winter is kind of a foreign concept. Though you can find snow only a few hours away in Big Bear and ice skating at LA Live, we still have mostly blue skies and very little frost.

Therefore, I give to you, How To Style: Winter Knit, LA edition. So blast some Taylor Swift or Death Cab for Cutie and let’s get started.

Look #1: Cropped Wrap Cardigan

Not just for tea parties or visiting grandma, this cropped wrap cardigan that I thrifted is perfect for layering over your favorite summer dress to make it a little extra cozy. Pair with kitten heels, a vintage bag, and a puff headband to add a little cottagecore vibes to your outfit.

Look 2: Crochet Vintage Cardigan

Green is really an underrated fall color. Though I’ve been very loyal to neutrals, green is always a color I circle back to that makes me feel grounded. Here, I paired a vintage crochet cardigan with a simply spaghetti strap tank top, Levi’s, and Reebock sneakers. A little brown baguette bag makes the look a little more Y2k. Personally, I can’t get enough of shoulder bags right now.

Look #3: Chunky Knit Cardigan

Out of all the different types of knitwear, ‘chunky’ scarves, sweaters, and cardigans are my favorite. I found this chunky knit cardigan at the Santa Monica Flea Market for only $25. It was such a steal that my friend and I both bought one. For a more evening look, I paired my new cardigan with a vintage slip dress and white kitten heels. Perfect for winter cocktails or a laid back holiday party, this is one of my favorite winter knit looks.

Look #4: Color Block Knit Shawl

I definitely attribute my love for knitwear to my mom. Ever since I was little she would pair wool or cashmere shawls she found downtown with little black dresses or other elegant pieces. She was the one who showed me the versatility of a shawl, cardigan, and scarf. This look features an old wool knit shawl by a Netherland brand called Oilily. My mom used to take me to this store around Christmas time to shop the brand’s seasonal sales. Now, I’ve stolen this shawl from her wardrobe and made it my own. I paired it with a lounge two-piece set from Free People and Reformation kitten heels. A similar look can be created with your favorite yoga outfit. Throw on a colorful shawl and your new, perfectly LA winter look is complete.

As always, thank you for reading! I’d love to know what other trends, brands, or other fashion-related topics you’ve been obsessing over this season.

For my next knitting project, I’m working on creating my first dress. I finally taught myself how to create a purl stitch so I’m trying to create this dress by alternating stitches. With the pace that I knit at, it might be a while before I finish the dress but I can’t wait to show it to you!

Warm wishes,

Kiana
