Beauty: MERIT
MERIT is a woman founded, clean beauty brand. A few months ago, I started seeing the iconic MERIT beauty bag everywhere on my Instagram feed. Another beauty brand, I thought, what could make this one special?
Like MERIT, my approach to beauty is minimalist. I prefer products that are simple, multi-functional, and if at all possible, clean. Out of MERIT’s six clean beauty products, I had the opportunity to try two, the Clean Lash mascara and Day Glow in Bounce. See my full reviews below:
Day Glow is a sheer highlighter balm that provides just a touch of dewy sheen wherever it’s applied. I found it to be similar to Glossier’s Haloscope in terms of consistency and application. According to MERIT, Day Glow’s formula includes: “plant-based squalane to lock in hydration”, Vitamin E, and an “amino acid blend help to minimize moisture loss and promote healthy skin barrier function”. Though the formulation is super impressive, I found the actual application to not be as dewy as I hoped for. Personally, I love to use face oil along my cheek bones and collar bone which I find creates the dewiest effect. For a more subtle dewy look, Day Glow is a great alternative for on-the-go.
Clean Lash is a lengthening mascara. The formula includes: “Proprietary tubing technology wraps and defines each lash”, “vitamin B5 to add shine”, and “plant-derived rice bran wax helps to structure and lengthen lashes”. Due to my previous experiences trying discover the best mascara for my relatively short eyelashes, I find myself always being skeptical of anyone who claims to have created the “perfect" mascara”. However, I must say this mascara is really impressive. The spoolie-like brush is typically not my preferred type of mascara wand since I find a lot of bristles tend to make the mascara come on cakey, but this one has near perfect application.
I’ve worn this mascara both to work and on the weekends. After hours of wear, I have no flaking and no “falling” happening. Typically, when I wear mascara, the bottom coat tends to "fall or smudge onto my lower lash line creating (in worst cases) a raccoon effect (not cute). To me, what makes this mascara perfection is:
I can apply it easily without any major clumping.
The formula doesn’t flake, smudge, or fall after hours of wear.
It actually lengthens my lashes without damaging them.
Overall, the Clean Lash is my favorite product that I’ve tried from MERIT. I would have loved to try the Flush Balm and Shade Slick but many of the shades that I had my eye on are out of stock.
