Mar Vista Farmer's Market
This past weekend, I went to the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market with a friend. It wasn’t my first time going to a farmer’s market, but it was my first time visiting this one in LA. Since there are so many vendors selling fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, baked goods, and food, it’s pretty overwhelming to decide what to purchase. In retrospect, I should have brought a larger canvas bag or even a small cart to help haul all my farmer’s market picks.
I’m actually pretty terrible when it comes to eating vegetables regularly. I know they’re the healthiest thing you can eat, but most of the times, I’m not a fan. I’d rather eat fruits. I did purchase this beautiful, brightly-colored chard below to maybe cook in a soup or stew. I’ve never seen such a rainbow of colors on such a leafy vegetable.
Just a happy gal at the farmer’s market~
It was such a rookie mistake to not bring enough bags! I ended up squishing my baguette because I was trying to hold too many things at once. Definitely bring more bags than you think you’ll need.
The best thing to do when entering the farmer market is walk around to see everything first before you purchase. After seeing everything that was offered, I started to make a mental list of what I wanted to take home with me.
For my farmer’s market outfit, I chose to wear my favorite pair of white overalls. I thrifted these a few years ago at Buffalo Exchange in LA. I’m also wearing my favorite Brixton paperboy hat and Sam Edelman suede mules (thrifted). The striped knitted cardigan (shown in the first photo) is from the Netherlands brand, Oilily. It’s practically vintage since my mom brought it many years ago. I recently ‘discovered’ it hanging amongst a bunch of rarely-worn winter sweaters and started to wear it with everything.
In the end, I bought:
Two bouquets of fresh flowers
Fruits & Veggies:
One flat of strawberries
One small bag of tangerines
One bundle of arugula
One head of cauliflower
One bundle of chard
Baked Goods:
One baguette
Two freshly baked croissants (one Nutella flavored and one almond)
A box of five macaroons
And yet, I would have bought so much more if I could have carried it all! I’ll definitely be going back to this market. I love the joy of picking out fresh ingredients and supporting local businesses.
These macarons are by Aida’s Baking Company are to die for! She has to most interesting flavors like Mojito and Maracujá. I’ve tried baking macarons before and I’ve still yet to figure out how to make them light and fluffy. These are simply perfection. Not too sweet but super flavorful.
Thank you for coming along with me on my Mar Vista Farmer’s Market adventure. I’ll definitely be coming back soon and bring a lot more bags with me next time.
xx
