I want to see you on the weekend...

As I weave through my usual route along the narrow side walks of the South Bay, I find myself in front of the endless, glittering ocean and it's endless sister blue sky. The sun starts to slip under the horizon line and the sky turns purple and bruised. In one of my ear buds, I hear the raspy, soulful vocals of Kaleb Davies and Coco (@xiaheartsu) whispering, "If I meant anything to you/ why did you do what you did?/ Broken hearts stained for a while/ Make a man feel like a child/ If I meant anything to me... If you meant anything to me/ Why did I ever say good-bye?..."

It wasn't too long ago, we were completely romanticized high-schoolers looking to fit in. One randomly placed Thursday night, I ventured out with my closet friends to go see Coco, Justin, and the 131ers sing live for the first time at a small local pub. It was the first time I ever saw the lot of them perform live. Coco had always been widely regarded as superstar talent in school productions so I was so pumped to see her live. Coco opened the night with multiple covers and the 131ers followed through with their folk rock singles. They were wonderfully original, talented, and whole-heartedly soulful.

Flash forward to that sunset evening. I hear, "Darling, why can't you be nicer to me?/ You and your friends get around/ Me and my friends act too proud/ we stay up late in the city streets..." in my ear buds as I pass by lifeguard towers and unassuming beach apartment complexes. The bright, folky sounds of the band match my pulse and I wonder how three years have slipped by so fast.
