Let’s talk skincare!

Recently a friend of mine told me she wanted to get more into a skincare routine, so naturally I was more than excited to help her come up with a skincare plan that works best for her and show her the basics.

Now I’m no expert and I think skincare is a super personal journey for everyone. There is no wrong or right, just what works best for you! So I just wanted to start out by listing some of the products and brands that I use and love. For the record, my type of skin is eczema prone and dry. Also, I can’t mention skincare without bringing up overall wellness. Stress, exercise, and diet all have huge factors on your skin as well. In the past, I’ve gotten stress pimples, dry patches, and really bad eczema flare ups either due to stress or seasonal weather. I feel very lucky that my skin is as clear as it is now and a lot of the credit goes to the dermatologist I saw when my eczema got really bad and the large amount of sleep I’ve been getting due to quarantine. I swear getting an ample amount of sleep and drinking water have a DIRECT impact on the daily quality of my skin. So with all that in mind, here are some of the skincare and makeup products I use!*

*None of the products listed below are sponsored :)

  1. Moisturizer:

    • Cetaphil Cream

      • My everything cream! I’ve been using this for as long as I can remember since my skin used to be hyper sensitive to anything scented. No matter what my skin’s going through, this cream has been a constant in my life to help it stay moisturized.

  2. Cleanser:

    • Tatcha Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser

      • My friends gifted me a set of Tatcha products for my bday and it’s the most luxurious brand I own! I use the cleanser every evening and it’s really helped even out my skin’s texture and has a deep clean feel.

  3. Face Oils/Serums:

    • Glossier Futuredew

      • I rotate between oils and serums on my face each night. Futuredew smells so fresh and it really makes my skin feel luxurious after I apply it.

    • The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

      • A friend gifted this face oil to me and it’s my first Ordinary product. It has kind of an earthy smell and I apply this when my skin is feeling the driest at night.

    • 111Skin Rose Gold Radiance Booster

      • Also gifted from a friend. This is a great addition for your skincare routine if you don’t want something too heavy or oily. The product is super shimmery and adds a glow to the skin.

  4. Face Masks:

    • Trader Joes Watermelon Overnight Face Mask and Blueberry Açaí Facial Scrub

      • Tip: For skincare on a budget, TJs has some great beauty products that are very affordable. I absolutely love the Watermelon Overnight mask since it helps keep my skin hydrated over night. The Blueberry Açaí Facial Scrub is very strong and feels slightly acidic so be careful if you decide to try it. It smells amazing but is very potent, so it’s good to just use it every so often.

    • Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack

      • Very nice for the money, but I didn’t feel like it had the most transformative results. I think I’m just more used to mud based masks that are stronger, so to me, this one was nice but not amazing. I’m really interested in trying the Moisturizing Moon Mask to see if that one is more suitable for my type of skin.

  5. SPF:

    • From such a young age, my mom has always reminded me to put on sunscreen. There are million different brands of sunscreen but I really like Kiehls Sunscreen formulation since it’s not greasy and very lightweight.

  6. Makeup:

    • So not part of skincare, but still something I wanted to note to accentuate your skin! Overall, I’m very minimalist (and sometimes lazy) when it comes to makeup. Skin first, makeup second. So here’s what I would wear on a typical day:

    • I usually don’t wear any foundation. If I do, I just use Colourpop’s foundation along with some powder. Then I fill in my eyebrows using NYX brow pencil and apply some highlighter. For highlighter, I love Colourpop’s Lite Stix. I use it as a cream eyeshadow and highlighter on my cheek bones. The shade I’m currently using doesn’t look like it’s in stock, but you can find similar shades on Colourpop’s website. I’m very into blush right now, so I’ll rotate between using Glossier’s Cloud Paint (in Storm), Milani Cosmetics baked blush (in Rose D’Oro), and Clinique’s blushwear Cream Stick (Rosy Blush, an old sample). Lastly, my favorite part is lips! I love lip tints, red lipsticks, and glosses. Depending on my mood, I’ll rotate between lip colors and finishes but some of my favorites are Colourpop’s Lip Tints and glosses, Pat McGrath Matte Lipsticks, and of course, Glossier Lip gloss.
