Centered in the heart of LA, UniqueLA is a shopping event that I have been attending for nearly five years. Before I was a devoted Free People customer, I looked forward to the vendors of UniqueLA to supply the latest and greatest designs in urban inspired T-shirts and jewelry. Not to mention all the goodies that food vendors brought along. Supporting local artists and their start-ups is really important to me. Seeing how new designers and chefs come up with new and exciting ways to do things is one of the main reasons why I attend this event every year. Sure you could go to a department store or mall and buy something off the rack, but do you know the story behind the piece your buying? Would you care to know?
Many of the vendors at the event made, designed, and marketed their product all o their own. Some do it as a hobby while others hope to strike it big. Regardless, everyone has their own story. Every graphic, every cookie, every print has a story behind it. I met a couple vendors that are art students looking to get their designs out into the world while others are dog owners who are looking for other dog owners who are just as passionate about their pets. For the past five years I have been attending, I always stop by the booth for LoveNailTree. Their T-shirs, maxi dresses, and jewelry is not only affordable but also entirely unique. For both men and women, their deigns feature graphics inspired by nature, simple objects, common interactions, and sayings. My first T-shirt from LoveNailTree featured a simply sky line and a poem printed on the inside of the shirt. The writing on the inside of the t-shirt is what caught my eye. Why would anyone bother to print inside a t-shirt? Nevertheless, there was something romantic about it, like a secret kept for good reason or no reason at all.
