Lunar New Year: Lucky Red Dress

Lunar New Year: Lucky Red Dress

Red has always been one of the colors I gravitate towards. I thrifted this dress three years ago at Crossroads on Melrose. The dress was absolutely stunning even on the hanger. It still had the originally tag on it so I presumed that the dress had never been worn. Since purchasing this dress, I’ve worn it for family Christmas photos, Valentine’s Day, and now Chinese New Years. I call it my “lucky dress” because this dress always makes me feel beautiful no matter what the circumstances might be.

According to Chinese tradition, wearing new clothes on New Year’s Day symbolizes a new start and fresh hopes. Red is also believed to scare away evil spirits and keep bad fortune away. For more details about lucky and symbolic colors in China, click here.
